Truth be told, we don't have to prove anything to anyone at all. But when your talent speaks for itself, that's an achievement worth celebrating. It's something to be genuinely proud of—and no one can ever take that away from you.

That's how Jasmine Curtis-Smith views her acting career at this point. She has been busy and successfully navigating the highs of being an actress, with a couple of Cinemalaya wins to her name.

In an episode of Antoinette Jadaone and JP Habac's Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast (AWKP), they sifted through Jasmine's film career. And when praise came for Jasmine, who has been bagging Cinemalaya awards, she candidly reacted, "Para hindi tayo matawag na 'kapatid lang'."

As we all know, Jasmine is the younger sister of Anne Curtis. It's rare to see them together in an acting project since the two have been taking different paths in their career. And don't be mistaken—it's something they're both truly proud of.

Jasmine, for one, won the Best Supporting Actress Award in her first(!) Cinemalaya film, Transit, back in 2013. In the 2017 film, Siargao, Jasmine also bagged the Best Supporting Actress, and so on.

This year, Jasmine's new film, Open Endings, has been awarded Cinemalaya's Best Ensemble Performance along with her castmates Janella Salvador, Klea Pineda, and Leanne Mamonong.

"I really wanna be part of Cinemalaya again, it's such a fun festival," Jasmine declared during their AWKP episode. She goes into detail about what made her audition for her role in Open Endings.

"Ang ganda nung pagkasulat and ang ganda rin nung prosesong pinagdaanan ko to be part of this film. Parang no-brainer na," Jasmine said.

For Jasmine, Open Endings is more than just a queer story. "I see it as a story that is told with so much heart. It's based on friendship. It can go beyond the measures na nakikita ng general public," the actress stated.

She pointed out that, regardless of being straight, Open Endings is a film that shows you how to navigate through love and life in general. "Maybe they can't identify with the film because they're not in the community, or they identify as straight. But it's still a story about friendship, love, and also yourself," Jasmine noted.

Jasmine Curtis-Smith on how she chooses her projects

During the Preview Ball 2025, we've actually caught up with Jasmine to quickly talk about Open Endings. But aside from the film, we talked about her criteria for choosing her next work.

After all, Jasmine has been focusing on films, but not just any film with a good story—films that the audience can learn from, she said.

"I look for films that have a message. Not just a good story, but a message that we can learn from—whether it's a hardship in a family, whether it's our society, whether it's the political landscape. Maybe not always be super as is, pero I make sure na we can tell these stories in a way that can shed light on important stories or issues and values for our culture," Jasmine told Cosmo.

Congrats on all your wins, Jasmine!
