Did you know that aside from fine acting chops, Jodi Sta. Maria is also a certified Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist? She recently gave a talk for this newly-minted passion of hers. Amazing! It seems that Jodi’s found yet another endeavor that she’s embracing with so much gusto.
We dove in to figure out what this was all about and found that Jodi is an acupunture specialist applying the the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol. Oooh, sounds so technical, so we investiagated more.
Tha NADA acupunture technique consists of the insertion of small, stainless-steel, disposable acupuncture needles into five points on the outer surface of a person's ear. The procedure is said to be a useful intervention in the treatment of addictions specifically and is recognized as a best practice in the treatment of substance use disorders.
According to NADA Philippines, “These five points are standard points which control withdrawal symptoms and helps patients become more clear-headed and comfortable, thus, more ready and willing to go through talk therapy.” As such, the NADA protocol in “combination with other treatment modalities (e.g. counseling, family therapy, psychotherapy, creative expression, support groups) for various conditions has shown to be clinically effective, cost-efficient, drug-free and compatible across cultures.”
Jodi notes in one her posts that Ear Acudetox also has benefits to behavioral health that treat anxiety, depression, and overall low mood. It sounds like such an apt, relevant, and not to mention noble passion, especially in today’s stressful times and socio-political climate. Jodi says that she ”got into this because I wanted to [share] a different kind of healing and relaxation through the NADA Protocol...which is all rooted in LOVE.”
The actress is also currently enrolled at the Southville International School And Colleges where she is taking up B.S. Psychology. In January, Jodi was included in the college’s dean’s list—such an impressive feat for someone balancing motherhood, a steady career, student life, and her newfound passion in acupunture.
In a recent interview on ABS CBN's with Mario Dumaual on TV Patrol, Jodi reavealed what gives her the drive to do everything that she’s doing, especially now with an upcoming horror flick and her grauduation just around the corner. The pixie-faced beauty says that “it’s God who puts dreams in our hearts. We have to do our part naman to commit and be determined. And, we focus to make sure that these dreams come true.” We’re totally following suit; may we all be as determined to make our heart’s dreams come true.
