Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards' first film together, Hello, Love, Goodbye, made us feel so many emotions. We laughed, cried, and got our hearts broken, all within two hours! And if we had to choose a favorite scene, I'm sure that a lot of us will say that it's that it's Joy Fabregas' short stint as a ~beauty queen~.
In the film, in order to earn more money, Kathryn as Joy joins the Overseas Filipino Workers' (OFW) Binibining Central competition and her opening spiel goes like this: "MA-ganda! MA-talino! MA-sipag! Pero higit sa lahat, MA-pagmahal! Ako ang 'ma' na kukumpleto sa MIMAROPA. Masaya ba kayong makita ako ngayon? Of course! Because standing in front of you is the joy of MA-rinduque. MA-gandang buhay!"
She also sings a totally offkey version of Angeline Quinto's song "Patuloy Ang Pangarap" for the talent portion, amidst claps and cheers!
Kathryn. Was. So. Good. Here. And apparently, the film's director, Cathy Garcia-Molina, also loved this scene so much.
During an interview on Tonight With Boy Abunda, Hello, Love, Goodbye's director said that this scene is her favorite and it's where she believed that "Kathryn lost herself" in the role. At that particular moment, Kath wasn't Kath at all. She was ~completely~ Joy, a struggling OFW who's trying to figure out her feelings for Ethan (Alden).
It's no secret that Direk Cathy trained her actors, especially Kathryn, very hard for the film. The director prevented Kath from contacting anyone (even her BF Daniel Padilla) for a whole month. Kathryn also learned how to clean toilets and do people's nails for Hello, Love, Goodbye.
Direk Cathy added: "Lagi kong hinihingi ano yung totoo, ano yung natural. Kay Kathryn, kay Alden, kaya pinagdaanan nila lahat 'yon, is because I believe you cannot act out something—an emotion—that you have never gone through. Kailangan ng tulong ng artista. They have to feel that they're not who they are in real life...They become their characters talaga."
We can't wait for Kathryn and Direk Cathy's next projects!
