In a YouTube video, Kris Bernal gave fans an update on her showbiz career, finally addressing the rumors that circulated when her contract with GMA-7 ended in March 2020. Describing it as a long process, it wasn't until July or August of the same year that she found out her contract wasn't going to be renewed. Having been with the network for more than a decade, the actress admitted, "During that time talaga, ang sakit-sakit lang lahat kasi ang tagal ko na sa GMA, 'di ba?" Still, Kris said she didn't hold any grudges. "I was able to talk to my bosses...before I did the soap sa TV5, talagang pinaalam ko 'yon. I made sure na wala akong mababangga. Wala akong masasaktan na tao."
Like many of us, Kris was grateful to be offered a job—especially as a freelancer. She mentioned the rumors among netizens that the reason why her contract wasn't renewed was because she had an "attitude" and that even while she was under a contract, she wanted to move to a different network.
Kris said, "Walang katotohanan po 'yon. In all honesty, wala akong maalala na nag-attitude ako. I come on time. I study my scripts. I do my job. I give my 100 percent all the time." The actress also shared that amid the pandemic, she was willing to take on any project she was offered. "Siyempre, kaysa maghintay ako na mabigyan ng project with my home network, kailangan ko mag-trabaho. Lahat tayo ngayon alanganin, 'di ba? Lalo na kasi ikakasal na rin ako. I'll have a family of my own, so siyempre kailangan ko ring mag-ipon."
Speaking candidly, Kris said that when her contract expired, another network reached out to her but it didn't go beyond that. The former Kapuso said she has so much respect for GMA: "Hindi ako bastos. Ang laki-laki ng respeto ko to my home network. They took care of me for more than 13 years. Even with my previous management, GMA Artist Center, alagang-alaga ako. Wala po akong reklamo. At sila ang nagtupad ng pangarap ko na maging artista."
On the YouTube description box under her life update, Kris wrote, "I kept my silence for over a year but now that I'm in a better state, I think it's the right time to finally clear things up. This is just me coming out for the sake of my mental health and for the sake of clearing my name. And, I hope this video will stop the fake rumors that are spreading and instead give clearance as to what happened."
