5 Facts About Newly-Crowned Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi

26-year-old Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa is this year's Miss Universe! She bested 89 other contestants and was crowned the ~*most beautiful woman in the universe*~ at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. We know you're curious, so here's everything you need to know about this inspiring kween:

1. Her background: 

Zozibini was born on September 18, 1993, in Tsolo, South Africa. She has a degree in public relations and image management and began joining beauty pageants in 2017.

Zozibini is currently the third beauty queen from South Africa to win the coveted Miss U title: Margaret Gardiner won in 1978 and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned in 2017.

2. Her advocacy: 

According to the Miss Universe website, Zozibini is "a passionate activist engaged in the fight against gender-based violence. She has devoted her social media campaign to changing the narrative around gender stereotypes. She is a proud advocate for natural beauty and encourages women to love themselves the way they are."

2. Her style: 

According to a report by Times Live, Zozibini is the only contestant to cover her hair for her official Miss Universe headshot! She embraced her African roots by wearing an emerald green doek.

4. Her national costume:

Zozibini wore a dress called the "Wave of Love," which was designed by Lloyd Kandlin. In November, Zozibini asked men from her country to write tributes to the women in their lives with love letters, which were in turn inscribed onto ribbons of fabric attached to her national costume.

5. Her crown: 

Zozibini is the first Miss Universe to wear the Power of Unity crown, a new creation by Mouawad. It has a total of 1,770 diamonds and is valued at $5 million or around P253 million.
