Nadine Lustre Isn't Rushing Motherhood—Because It's More Than Just Having A Baby

Time and time again, we've talked about how motherhood is no small thing. Motherhood is layered, deeply personal, and shaped by so many factors.
There would be conversations about your body and identity, to the kind of relationship you want to build with your child, to how motherhood fits (or doesn't) into your life and career. It's never a one-size-fits-all journey—and Nadine Lustre knows this all too well.
In a 50-minute vlog on Vice Ganda's YouTube Channel, Nadine and Vice had a very personal and deep conversation about life in general. One of the topics that they touched on was whether Nadine would ever be ready to become a mother.
"Kaya mo nang maging mother?" Vice asked. ICYDK, the two celebrities top-billed the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival entry, Call Me Mother, where Nadine plays the role of Mara, who once abandoned her son.
"Actually, ayoko talagang mag-anak. Yun talaga," Nadine directly told Vice. "Pero kung mangyayari, kung ibibigay sakin, tatanggapin ko naman."
It wasn't the first time that Nadine opened up about her thoughts on motherhood. But in the recent vlog, the 31-year-old actress pointed out certain factors that make her think hard about pregnancy.
For her, the idea of raising another human being comes with an immense weight—one that she admits can be scary. Motherhood, after all, isn't just about wanting someone to carry your genes; it's about the lifelong responsibility of nurturing and guiding a person through the world.
"Parang hindi ko lang kaya. Takot lang din ako na, kasi, magre-raise ka ng tao eh. Siyempre, responsible ka diyan. Hindi siya laruan lang eh. Hindi lang siya cute. Hindi lang para makita mong may kamukha ka," Nadine expressed. "It's such a huge responsibility na takot ako pag nagkamali ako."

Nadine Lustre on the importance of self-discovery before motherhood
Nadine's also making a case about how a parent should be financially and emotionally ready to become one. She pointed out in the vlog, "Ang hirap ng buhay ngayon. Sobrang hirap," referring to how raising a child requires financial stability.
Moreover, even as one of the industry's most successful stars, the actress admits there are still experiences and milestones she wants to achieve for herself. She knows there's still plenty of growth and goals ahead in her career.
"I think for me din kasi, hindi pa ako tapos i-discover yung sarili ko. Tapos mag-aanak ako na parang lahat ng atensyon ko, lahat ng oras ko mapupunta sa bata—parang you know, I feel like in some way, sobrang makaka-affect din siya sa akin," she told Vice.
Nadine's not closing her doors to motherhood. It's just that at this point in her life, she's got a lot of self-discovery to pursue—and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In a way, she wanted to be fair to herself and her child in the future.
She said, "I think ako lang din personally, pag ako naging nanay, yun lang talaga gagawin ko"—a cue that she's also thinking how her career might take a backseat if she ever bears a child.
In the end, she affirmed, "Siguro hindi naman ako completely closed off, parang hindi naman totally sarado na huwag mag-anak. Right now, mas importante lang talaga sa akin na matapos ko muna lahat ng kailangan kong gawin for myself. And then, let's see—malalaman ko naman yun kung ready na ako eh."
At present, Nadine is dating her longtime beau Christophe Bariou.
