While it has become normal for us to see older men in relationships with much younger women in films, May-December stories of older women with younger men are in pretty short supply! Of course, there's Soltera from 1999 starring Maricel Soriano and Diether Ocampo, and the 2016 film Love Me Tomorrow with Dawn Zulueta and Piolo Pascual.
Here, we found three new May-December movies that you might want to check out. After all, age is just a number!
Glorious is about a young salesman, Niko (Tony Labrusca), who falls in love with a married older woman named Glory (Angel Aquino), a mother of three grown kids. The 30-year difference is, of course, a big deal not just to Glory, a brain tumor survivor, but also to the people around them who judge their relationship immediately. More than just the ~*steamy*~ love scenes, Glorious tells the story of a different kind of couple and makes us question our take on relationships and age. The film is currently streaming on iWant.
2. Belle Douleur (A Beautiful Pain)
An official selection for the 2019 Cinemalaya Film Festival, this film tells the story of Elizabeth (Mylene Dizon), a self-made woman in her late 40s who has resigned herself to living on her own for the rest of her life. After her mother passes away from a long illness, she meets Jon (Kit Thompson), a guy who is 20 years her junior. Jon convinces her that love knows no age! They embark on a promising May-December affair until Liz realizes that Jon has big dreams that she can't be part of.
3. Malamaya (The Color Of Ash)
Sunshine Cruz stars in this film as a pessimistic and uninspired middle-aged artist who finds a spark with a millennial amateur photographer played by Enzo Pineda. He leads her to a road of intense creative and sexual awakening. Malamaya will also part of the upcoming 2019 Cinemalaya Film Festival in August!
