This Pinay Fangirl Tells Us Why She Joined The SHINee World
Pau's deep dive into SHINee happened in 2017 when she got to chance to watch them perform at the Global Peace Concert One K In Manila. At that time, she didn't know who these second-gen K-pop greats were: "I didn't even realize na ako rin pala nakatayo na, sumasayaw na rin pala ako, kumakanta na rin pala ako—I was singing along to a song that I didn't even know. It was the SHINee effect."
"What I really love about them is that they're so humble. They still have this rookie mindset. Whatever passion they had in the beginning is still the same passion they have until now," she says of her love for Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin. And although it's so hard to pick a favorite member, Pau's ultimate bias is Key. "Key is everything I aspire to be," she shares. "He is unapologetically confident, he is hardworking, he is passionate, he is creative…It's really not hard to fall in love with him."
As a part of the SHINee World or Shawol (SHINee's official fandom name), Pau has gone to several of the members' solo activities and group events, but the one that stood out the most was attending SHINee's 10th anniversary celebration in Seoul. After going to several fan gatherings and meeting other Shawols, Pau was set to leave Seoul without seeing the boys, but as fate would have it, she actually got her wish right before flying back home! "Bumalik na lang ako sa venue. Dumiskarte na lang ako kung saan ko ilalagay yung bagahe ko and I waited for them. After an hour, I finally saw them. They waved at us, they smiled at us. It was short but it was the best way to end my trip."
Being a fangirl of SHINee is a life-changing experience for Pau, and she leaves her idols this message for all the good they've done to her: "I am so thankful that I found you and your music. You helped me get through a lot of things and you motivate me to be the better version of myself. There were so many sad days made better through your songs, through your performances...I wish that you keep on choosing what makes you happy. May you never forget that SHINee World will always be here to support you. SHINee is and will forever be five."
