Rabiya Mateo just landed from her first-ever international flight! On Saturday, April 10, the 24-year-old beauty queen arrived at LAX in Los Angeles, California to attend pre-pageant activities for the 2020 Miss Universe competition. Upon arrival at the airport, Rabiya was greeted by the press and said she would do everything to bring home the crown and hoped her supporters would pray for her success.
After one full day of no updates, Rabiya took to Instagram Stories to explain that she's been hit HARD by jet lag and just rested the whole time—aww! ICYDK, Manila is 15 hours ahead of Los Angeles, so yes, jet lag is super-relatable to anyone who's traveled that far.
"Hey, guys! Good morning," Rabiya shared from her hotel room. "It's actually 5 a.m. here in Los Angeles. I woke up around four. Maybe my body hasn't adapted yet to a diff time zone. I'm really having a hard time coping up with my jet lag. However yesterday, I wasn't able to update you guys. I was resting [the] whole day. Bigay niyo na sa akin, that was my first international flight and it took us 13 hours to be here! So pagod nga."
She also added another ~fun fact~ about her first time abroad—she had thought they landed earlier than expected because she didn't take into account the time difference: "And another fun fact—tawang tawa talaga si Mama J (Jonas Gaffud, creative director of the Miss Universe Philippines organization)—nung lumapag, I said na, 'Uy, Mama J! Masyado tayong maaga than the usual!' And then sabi ni Mama J, '7 p.m. [na].'" Cute!
But being a pro and all, Rabiya was up and about the next day! Check out her Day 2 ~look~ wearing a modern terno suit by Marlon Tuazon, a Pampanga-based fashion designer:
The 2020 Miss Universe competition will be held on May 16 in Hollywood, Florida. We're all rooting for you, Rabiya!
