It was a double win for veteran tennis player Ruben Gonzales at the 30th SEA Games. Not only did he bag the silver medal at the men's doubles, but he also won ~gold~ after long-time girlfriend Michele Bumgarner said yes to his marriage proposal minutes after the game.

Michele, who is also a distinguished icon in the field of car racing, had been cheering for Ruben from the stands of the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. The two have been in a relationship for five and a half years.

In an interview with Peter Paul Patrick Lucas of Radyo Pilipinas Dos, Ruben said that he decided to pop the question after his game because he wanted it to be a special moment: "I’ve been planning to do it for a while. I know my family is going to be here… I knew she will be surprised."

Michele, on the other hand, officially shared the good news with everyone on her Twitter account: “Still in shock. [I] Can’t believe I’m marrying my best friend and the absolute love of my life. I LOVE YOU rubenninogonzales [.] And to all our friends and family who kept this surprise from me! I LOVE YOU ALL [.]”
