In a recent podcast episode of Updated With Nelson Canlas, Ruru Madrid shared that the first time he ever saw Bianca Umali was when he was in 5th grade.
“The first time I saw Bianca, grade 5 ako. Hindi pa ‘ko artista noon. So, yung Tropang Potchi nagpunta sa school namin, and then nakita ko si Bianca noon. Siguro si Bianca noon mga nine years old palang kasi grade 5 palang ako noon e. Mga 11 years old palang ako noon. Gandang ganda na ‘ko sa kanya,” he narrated.
It wasn’t until Ruru entered showbiz that he officially met Bianca. However, his first thought was that she was *too* young for him.
“And then, nung nag-artista ako, noong first project ‘ko, nandoon din siya. Pero nababataan ako sa kanya. Sabi ko, ang bata pa nito e,” he admitted.
While Ruru was also young at the time, he admitted that he preferred dating women who were older than him. “Lahat ng mga nililigawan ko mas matanda sa akin. As in, kung sino sino lahat halos ng artista makilala ko nililigawan ko ganon lahat.”
Eventually, the two got closer when they both starred in the Sunday noon talk show Sunday Pinasaya. Ruru said that he and Bianca shared a deep conversation one night, and that was when he realized he really liked her.
“And then one night, parang GMA party yata ‘yun. I was there, nakapag-usap kami. Then, nagkaroon kami ng malalim na conversation. I didn’t expect kasi lagi ko siya nakikita bilang isang nakakabatang kapatid e. And then ‘yun nga, eventually, noong nakilala ko na siya, doon [ko] nakita kung gaano siya kalalim. Doon ko mas nakita yung mukha niya kung gaano siya kaganda,” Ruru shared.
Ruru was invited to guest on Updated With Nelson Canlas to talk about his upcoming series Lolong on GMA-7. Before the podcast ended, Nelson asked Ruru about how he and Bianca met, which prompted the actor to share when he first saw Bianca.
Ruru also mentioned that Bianca is one of the people who keeps him grounded. “Big factor for me si Bianca. Siya yung nagpababa sakin. I mean, hindi masama. Just to keep me grounded, kumbaga. Kasi pinakita niya sa akin kung gaano kahirap ang buhay.”
