Last year, we fell in love with "Big Boss" Yoo Shi Jin (Song Joong Ki) and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo) on the hit K-drama Descendants of the Sun.
It's been a year since the show last aired, and now, the Song-Song tandem just revealed that they're a couple IRL—and are actually getting married!
But when exactly did the two Korean superstars start their romance? In an exclusive report by Korean media outlet OSEN, an acquaintance of the Song-Song couple revealed that they fell in love during the filming of the hit drama in 2015.
"The truth is their love started before the airing of Descendants of the Sun. The filming began in 2015, so their love started then. (Descendants of the Sun began airing in 2016).
And they continued their romance even after they stopped shooting their drama:
"In the beginning of last year, Song Joong Ki secretly sent snacks to Song Hye Kyo while she was participating in a photo shoot. This was before Descendants of the Sun aired and the staff members were confused as to why Song Joong Ki was there."
The source added that the actors preferred to keep their relationship super low-key and didn't want to be "outed" as a couple by the media:
"They really didn't want the news of their relationship to be revealed by the media. That is why Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki revealed their relationship through the press directly through their words, as they believe that is a courtesy for the fans." [via AllKPop]
With this new update, we now know that Song-Song have been together for over a year and a half now. After the surprise engagement announcement by their agencies last night, Dispatch released photos of the couple on a date in Tokyo, Japan which were taken back in January. The Korean news group stated that they knew about their relationship early on, but opted to not publish the photos because marriage between the two stars was involved. [via AllKPop]
