In February, longtime showbiz couple Sophie Albert and Vin Abrenica announced to the world that they were engaged after eight years of being in a relationship. Thing is, the two were already engaged since December 2020 and, in even better news, they were also expecting their first child!

In a report by, Sophie recently spoke with the press about her wedding prep and her pregnancy. Since the GMA-7 actress is already in her third trimester, she revealed they will only plan their nuptials after they welcome their baby girl. "Kasi now nga, baby preps muna, ayaw muna naming ma-overwhelmed. So, hopefully early December to February [next year], around that time," she said.

Even though they got pregnant before they got engaged, Sophie said she and Vin always knew they were ~meant to be~ but never set a clear-cut plan about their future. The baby, she feels, was probably a sign for them to start settling down. "We knew naman, pero hindi pa kami on the point na parang we're setting a date na itong year na ito, kailangan ganito…So feeling ko, si God na rin ang nagbigay ng, 'O, 'eto, para gumalaw-galaw kayo sa personal life niyo.' Kasi kung hindi talaga, wala e," she said.

Sophie also shared that her pregnancy with Vin was indeed unplanned and they were both caught off guard by the news. "It was not a planned pregnancy," she said. Sophie and Vin met in the TV5 reality show Artista Academy in 2012 and hustled in the showbiz industry since then. If they hadn't gotten pregnant now, starting a family wouldn't be high on their priority list. "If it's planned, siyempre, mauuna sana ang kasal ano, before kami magkaroon ng baby. But I think, it was meant to happen, kasi sobrang tagal na namin ni Vin. And we’re both of age, I'm already 30 years old…It was the push we needed to take our relationship to another level. Kung hindi, we we’re both very career-focused, so we wanted to achieve so much career-wise. Maybe kung hindi nangyari, baka nakalimutan na namin yung family, ganyan. So, I guess, it's meant [to be]."

So how exactly did Sophie find out she was pregnant? Well, she was actually on a video call with her best friend when her pregnancy test turned out positive! "Noong malaman ko, I was actually in disbelief. Kasi nagvi-video call kami noon ng best friend ko. Naka-video call iyong pregnancy test, and I was expecting na siyempre, negative. So noong nag-positive, nanginginig ang kamay ko. Sa sobrang takot ko, tumatawa na ko, iyong ganoon. Parang hindi mo ma-explain iyong feeling."

But she clarified that she never felt negative about her unplanned pregnancy. "It was always positive," Sophie shared. "Even when I first told my mom, first thing she said was, 'I'm so happy for you.' And she hugged me."

And as for Vin, Sophie said he really wasn't prepared for that kind of news. "Actually si Vin nga, sinabi ko sa kanya, I think hindi siya nagsalita for about two minutes. Hindi siya nagsalita…at hindi pa ako agad naniwala doon sa pregnancy test. The next day, nagpa-blood test pa ako."

When her test results came out, the doctor said they might even be expecting TWINS and Vin's reaction to that possibility? "Para siyang nalaglag sa chair niya," she said in jest. "Nagfa-Facetime lang kami, para siyang nalaglag sa chair niya na, 'Oh my god, not one but two.' Pero thankfully, isa lang."

In recent months, Sophie and Vin revived their YouTube channel and have been posting milestones of their engagement and pregnancy journey. Check out their YouTube channel, Vin & Sophie, here!
