1. Fifty Shades of Grey
This was one of the most highly awaited movies for the year ever since the trailer came out in 2014. The movie—and the book which E. L. James wrote—might not have gotten the approval of feminists, BDSM practitioners, and film critics, but it still got major buzz because it was sexy AF. And let's not forget the hot soundtrack featuring songs by Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, and The Weeknd.
A movie for the young and the young at heart, Minions got a lot of us interested not just 'cos Despicable Me was a good movie, but also 'cos of all the cute merch being sold in several stores.
3. Fast and Furious 7
Cars, stunts, explosions. If those weren't enough to get people to watch the seventh Fast and Furious, it was the death of actor Paul Walker while the film was being shot that made this movie a must-see. It was a touching tribute. Plus, who can forget the nakaka-LSS official soundtrack, "See You Again," by Whiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth.
4. Jurassic World
Critics can agree that the fourth installment of the Jurassic Park franchise is an entertaining and spectacular thriller of a movie. It might not compare to the original, but it's still hella cool. Also, Chris Pratt.
5. Heneral Luna
Heneral Luna, the Philippines' official entry to the Oscars, got major hype because of its stellar cast, witty and realistic dialogue, and non-traditional Philippine bayani plot. Word of mouth and positive reviews eventually led to an extended run in theaters.
6. Crazy Beautiful You
This movie starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla broke three records on the first day of showing. It earned five million pesos on the first hour, and got 38 million pesos at the end of the first day. Clearly, it was a huge success. It was even shown in the U.S. and Canada!
7. Avengers: Age of Ultron
The superhero movie is once again about saving the human race from extinction. Whether or not you're a Marvel or comic book fan, the action-packed sequel to the Avengers was worth the watch.
8. Inside Out
Produced by Pixar and Disney, this movie was (unsurprisingly) a tearjerker, not to mention a unique masterpiece. They filmmakers gave feelings feelings! And the scenes and lessons are just spot-on.
9. Pitch Perfect 2
The musical comedy is the feel-good movie you need (apart from the prequel)! It definitely hit the right notes, as people cannot wait for the third film. (Hopefully it'll happen very, very soon!)
10. Suicide Squad
This upcoming superhero film will be in theaters next year. In case you have no idea what Suicide Squad is, it's kind of like an underground government unit composed of criminals that do all the government's dirty work in exchange for a smaller sentence. The movie's stellar cast includes Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Cara Delevingne.
