The first-ever online Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival took place this year, and instead of full-length films, the festival focused on indie shorts. Tokwifi (Star) won Best Film as well as the Netpac Jury Prize! Here's everything you need to know about it:
What's it about?
Cinemalaya tells us that the 20-minute fantasy romance film features "a 1950s mestiza star, trapped inside a television that fell from the sky, who dreams up a romantic romp with a Bontok Igorot man who does not know how to kiss." The film also won the Special Jury Prize for the QCShorts Competition of the 2019 QCinema International Film Festival.
According to the film's writer and director, Carla Pulido Ocampo: "In this film, I wanted to reflect the fact na outsider ako dito e, ang dami kong insecurities being part of the Bontoc community. It symbolizes that. So, I decided na i-merge ang mundo ng mga bituin—a Manila star—at mga tiga Bondoc." (Via Manila Bulletin)
Who starts in Tokwifi?
The movie features 2019 FAMAS Nominee for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Score Kurt Ayeo-eo Lumbag Alalag as Limmayug and 2019 FAMAS Best Supporting Actress Adrienne Vergara as Laura Blancaflor.
How can you watch it?
