No, we aren’t just talking about when you felt left out the moment twerking became a thing. According to CBS News, Dormant Butt Syndrome is a condition that could be causing you hip, knee, and back issues. Chris Kolba, a physical therapist at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, explains that Dormant Butt Syndrome is when “the glute muscles [are] just not functioning as efficiently as they should.” When these muscles aren’t strong enough, the muscles and joints around them have to work extra hard, which can cause significant damage.
The causes? Being born with a flat butt, sitting too much (fair), and sleeping in a fetal position—because life can be a bitch that way. The good news is you can totally prevent this from happening by strengthening [the] front of your thighs, stretching your hips, and doing exercises that specifically target your buns.
