Sharon Cuneta on Her Weight Loss and Why She Didn't Take Ozempic
With each social media post, the singer-actress continues to impress netizens with her noticeably slimmer figure. While Sharon has been transparent about her wellness routines, some have speculated whether she’s taken medication as a shortcut. "People would say it's Ozempic," she says, aware of the speculation.
For the uninitiated, Ozempic is the brand name for semaglutide, a drug used to manage diabetes by lowering blood sugar, which can also lead to weight loss. Aware of its intended use, Sharon remarks, "What is wrong with Ozempic? Absolutely nothing, right? Of course, you don't want to take the stash of somebody who really has high blood sugar levels. You don't want to take their stash away when it’s becoming scarce."
She emphasizes that she has never used Ozempic for weight loss, admitting, "I tried another medication once. I could not handle it."

In the Megastar's words, she couldn't adhere to anything "artificial" or detached from her own willpower when it came to losing weight. One major reason is her heart condition, which causes her resting heart rate to be higher than average. "I have had maintenance meds since 2003, and I have two cardiologists who can attest," she shares. "I can't abuse my body that way."
Her mission to shed pounds began almost a decade ago, and thankfully, she's now seeing results. "I made the decision to lose weight when I turned 50 in 2016, because I had ruined my metabolism by going on crash diets—and the rebound would be worse than what I lost," she explains.
Overall, Sharon acknowledges that while her line of work may require her to look a certain way, losing weight has more to do with her health than vanity. "I [need] to be healthy if I want to see my grandchildren and play with them... it's like every time I [looked] in the mirror [before], [I realized] na this has to end, once and for all."
