Blackpink's Lisa Opens Up About Why She Kept Her Past Relationships A Secret

Blackpink's Lisa is giving fans a rare glimpse into what her dating life was like while being one of the biggest K-pop stars in the world. The Thai singer reportedly opens up about her past relationships in her upcoming documentary film, Always Lalisa, which is set to hit cinemas worldwide on October 12.

International media outlets that got an early look at the documentary report that Lisa talks about what it was like trying to date while being part of Blackpink alongside Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo, and why she felt the need to keep those relationships private.

Lisa opened up about the pressure surrounding celebrity dating in K-pop and how being publicly linked to someone could affect a star's career. "In K-pop culture, we can't date," she said. "If you're seeing someone and you get caught by paparazzi, your popularity drops."

She also experienced that pressure herself. Without naming anyone, Lisa revealed that she had a few relationships when she was younger, but keeping them private became part of the deal. "When I was younger, I had a few relationships, but we had to hide when we're dating. I didn't want my dating to be the thing that hurts Blackpink's popularity."

Over the years, the Internet has had its own theories about Lisa's love life. The 29-year-old star has been linked to French businessman Frédéric Arnault, with Elle reporting that dating rumors surrounding the two first started circulating in 2022. But despite years of speculation, neither Lisa nor Frédéric has publicly confirmed or addressed the rumors about their relationship.

Lisa isn't the only Blackpink member who has spoken about how difficult it can be to date while living life in the spotlight. Earlier in 2026, Rosé sat down with Alex Cooper for the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she looked back on a past relationship and the lengths she went to just to spend time with him: she literally dressed up as an elderly woman to visit her then-boyfriend.

"I would go to his house [dressed as a granny], because we can't go anywhere," she said, laughing. She added, "For a while in my house, we got rid of it now, but I had a whole section of just grandma clothes, because I went wild…I think at one point, I even imitated how they would walk."

Jennie and Jisoo are the two Blackpink members whose relationships have been publicly confirmed by their agencies.

ICYDK, Jennie and EXO member Kai were reported to be dating in 2018 after rumors grew, with fans pointing to their low-key interactions and alleged matching Eiffel Tower Instagram posts. Their respective entertainment agencies later confirmed the relationship, but SM Entertainment later confirmed their breakup in January 2019.

On the other hand, Jisoo briefly dated Korean actor Ahn Bo-hyun in 2023. The two were reported to be in a relationship in August that year, with Blackpink's agency, YG Entertainment, confirming the news at the time.

As of writing, none of the Blackpink members have publicly confirmed a current romantic relationship. But they recently marked their 10th anniversary on August 8, with the group reuniting for a mini fan meet and a live video online.
