If there’s something about prom that we can all collectively agree on, it's the fact that it can get pretty expensive. Think about it: You have to spend on prom tickets, shoes, hair and makeup, transpo, and of course, a special dress.
Understandably, there are those who do not have the means to spend on these things. But at the end of the day, prom is one of the highlights of high school. Might as well get creative, right?
Meet Maverick Francisco Oyao—a loving brother whose post has gone viral because he made a ball gown for his sister, Lu Asey Keanna Oyao, to wear to prom!
According to his Facebook post, it all started when the school confirmed that they will be holding a Junior-Senior Prom this year. His sister was excited about the news but they also started to worry because they didn’t have enough money to rent a ball gown. “Baka ‘di afford [nila] mama at papa,” Maverick told his sister, “baka ‘di ka matutuloy or ano [sic] kasi saan tayo kukuha ng pang-renta?” But since it’s her last year in junior high school, she insisted on going.
This got Maverick thinking, “If gagawa na lang kami makaka-mura siguro?” At first, he doubted his capabilities because according to him, “mahirap ang paggawa.” But with the help of YouTube tutorials and Michael Cinco’s Spring and Summer Collection, he was able to come up with a design for his sister’s ball gown. Maverick took it day by day and thankfully, he was able to finish it on time.
The result was a blue and white ball gown with criss-cross ribbon details. He hand-painted the ombre bustier to fit the dress’ winter-themed color palette and added fake flowers to the skirt.
