Even if you hear stories about awful bosses, midday coffee runs, and feeling absolutely clueless at work, there are a lot of ways you can still have a grand time while training on the job. Here's how to make the most out of your internship:
Get to know the company.
Whether you're doing your internship to fulfill an academic requirement or you're beefing up your resume, it's important to get to know the company. What's its mission and goals? What's the culture like at work? Knowing these basic things will help you understand how to work for and with them. You'll end up being a more effective intern because of your style and attitude.
Don't be afraid.
If your bosses ask you to throw around some ideas during brainstorming, do it! If you don't understand a task that's given to you, ask questions—don't guess. You're an intern, and you aren't expected to know everything. Your bosses have been working in the industry for a while, but even they don't know everything.
Know everyone’s expectations, including your own.
Are you expected to come in every day and stay until everyone’s done with work? Or are you allowed to leave earlier than everyone? Make sure you and your bosses are on the same page about everything.
