1. When you didn't sleep well
You know how sometimes, no matter how long you stay in bed for or how many "sleep-inducing" techniques you try, you just can't seem to catch some ZZZs? And before you know it, it's 5:30 a.m. and time to actually get out of bed? All of a sudden, you start crashing. It's the absolute worst. If it's just a normal day at work, and you don't have a huge meeting or presentation, call in sick, get some rest, and don't feel guilty about it.
2. When you have a doctor's appointment
Whenever something feels off in the way your body's functioning, even if you don't think it's a big deal, it's best to get that checked out. Unfortunately, a doctor's appointment can take longer than just your lunch hour. Instead, call in sick and take care of yourself first. Even if it's a false alarm, trust us, you won't regret making that trip to see the doc. Do it for your peace of mind.
3. When you're on your period
Yes, really. While you shouldn't use your period as an excuse to not be your most badass self, sometimes, living your best life means lying in bed, eating ice cream, and hugging a heating pad. Ain't no shame in that.
4. When there's a household emergency
Did you wake up to a busted pipe and a flooded bathroom? If you live alone, it's the last thing you want to deal with, but hey, you're an adult now so who else is gonna take care of it? And because it's not exactly something you can "just deal with" when you get home, give yourself permission to call in sick so you can handle it like a grown ass woman.
5. When you're experiencing major burnout
Burnout happens even to the best of us. Ignoring the red flags isn't good for you, physically and mentally. And if you think about it, if you feel like you're crashing, you're probably not doing your best work, which means you're not doing right by your team anyway. If taking a couple of days to recharge and pull yourself together is what you need, then that's exactly what you should do.
