Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to adjust and make changes in our lives. Some transitioned to a work from home setup, while others started small businesses to help them financially during these tough times. Recently, we featured flight attendants who launched a tapsilog food business and a Pinoy couple who opened a fast food restaurant during the pandemic. Now, we're putting the spotlight on another small business that's been thriving lately: Coffee Bros.
Owned by brothers Johndoe and Kim together with their cousin Bill, Coffee Bros is a coffee stand that's located along Candaba Road in Pampanga. They serve about 60 to 100 cups of coffee a day, from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
This pop-up business was launched in December 2020 and has been successfully serving its customers ever since. According to Johndoe, when they first opened, they only had three customers! They started with instant coffee but eventually switched to selling brewed coffee because that's what their market is more interested in. Most of their customers are those who bike, jog, and do Zumba workouts in the Candaba-Pampanga area.
With an initial investment of P900, the owners shared that it took a lot of research and hard work to get to where they are today. They really searched how to make brewed coffee and even joined online groups such as Coffee Lovers Philippines. From the money they earned in selling instant coffee, they were able to buy a French press and a manual grinder.
One cup of their brewed coffee costs P30. All their coffee beans are locally planted, and are from farmers in Kalinga, Sagada, Benguet, Mt. Apo, Batangas, and Kalamansig.
If you ever find yourself at Coffee Bros, don't miss out on a photo opportunity! Their spot is so Instagrammable, their background is a scenic view of the rice fields in Pampanga.
Being an inspiration to other people is their biggest achievement in launching the pop-up business, Johndoe shared. He said that they've been getting messages from people who have witnessed their story and are inspired by it. "Doon pa lang po masasabi mo na, na tagumpay po yung naging business venture namin kasi ang dami pong na-inspire na mga tao," he added.
