Are your and your friends' Instagram Stories filled with Strava screenshots and pics at Ayala Car-Free Sundays and UP oval? Chances are, you have all caught the running bug. This 2025, it seems that everyone's lacing up, and we can't blame them. Running is basically free cardio (well, unless you count your growing stash of shoes, gear, and gels—no judgment!).

But running isn't just exercise anymore—it's a full-on community with its own culture, thanks to running clubs popping up all over the Metro. Some even (half-)joke that club meet-ups double as a dating app where you can find a fling, a situationship, or maybe The One.

And as running culture continues to grow, it's also helped boost the popularity of another trend on the rise: the coffee rave.

What's a coffee rave?

Coffee raves are actually not a new phenomenon. A little Internet digging unearthed a 2016 Vice article about the Tropical Coffee Rave which happened at 7 a.m. at Extract Coffee Roasters in Bristol, United Kingdom. This particular rave was not afraid to get wild even at its unconventional early-morn hour. According to Sammy Maine's account for Vice, the Tropical Coffee Rave featured "ethically sourced coffee," baked goods, "Caribbean beats" by DJs, and a wild cast of characters that included "a vest-clad dancer," "white guys in Bob Marley t-shirts," and ravers covered in varying amounts of glitter.

Today's coffee-rave scene is usually not as eccentric, but they often feature a DJ mixing club tunes, coffee, and pastries. Party hours may vary from early morning to early afternoon, but what's for sure is you'll be home at a respectable time—no stumbling home at 5 a.m.!

Why is everyone at a coffee rave rn?

Jenil Aspiras is the founder of Caffeine Club. This "social club" regularly hosts coffee raves at cafes all over the Metro like Greyhound Cafe and Tattooed Baker. A lot of their coffee raves start at 5 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.—perfect if you aren't an early bird but also hate staying up way too late. (If you do like starting your day early, they also host raves as early as 7 a.m.)

"Our crowd's young, creative, and unapologetically expressive. Students, young professionals, ex-clubbers, recently sober [people], creatives, DJs, content creators, people who actually want to show up, dance, and connect. Some cafés even welcome pets. Parents bring their teens," shares Jenil in an email interview with Cosmo.

"Caffeine Club was born out of a personal shift," he adds. "I had just turned 40, quit drinking, and realized I didn't want to keep DJing at 1 a.m. in dark clubs, but I wasn't done with music. Then one night, scrolling, I stumbled on a video of people raving inside a café in Canada in the middle of the day. Something clicked. That energy, that freedom, but in a space where you could actually be awake and present."
Jenil continues, "So we tested it. A few friends, a small café, one DJ set. Then another, and another. By the 11th event, 100 people showed up. And that's when it hit me: We weren't just throwing daytime parties. We were building a new culture around coffee, music, and connection."

Where else are coffee raves brewing in Manila?

Just Show Up Club, formerly Rockwell Running Club, hosted two post-run coffee parties at Angkan in McKinley, and we’re high-key hoping for another one. Founders Running Club also regularly partners up with Single Origin for their Sip & Spin.

A semi-regular "coffee party," Single Origin's latest Sip & Spin, happened last May 24 at Opus Mall. Starting at 8 a.m. and ending just before lunch, it was just the right time for a post-run rave with coffee, pastries, and brunch fare. Single Origin spilled that they might have another Sip & Spin in the works (so it's best to follow their Instagram for updates!).
04 Not Found Cafe in Legazpi Village, Makati, is another cafe that regularly hosts coffee raves. This semi-hidden cafe (they're on the 9th floor of OPL building!) has caffeine-fueled parties that start at 2 p.m. or 3 p.m., and end at around 8 p.m.—just in time for dinner.

What's next for local coffee raves?

With more and more coffee raves popping up in the local club scene, it's safe to say that this new-ish type of party is a hit among millennials and Gen Zs. "[It's] because it doesn't feel like anything else," shares Jenil. "You don't need alcohol to have fun. You don't need 3 a.m. chaos to feel free. People are realizing they can have an unforgettable night—in daytime—and still wake up clear-headed the next day.”
In the future, Caffeine Club plans to go bigger with a Coffee Rave festival, which brings the coffee-rave vibes outdoors, and a Coffee Rave magazine in the works.

Chill party vibes and good coffee while still making it to an early bedtime? We're hoping more coffee raves pop up!
