Cosmo Recommends: Enjoy Delightful Meals In This Exclusive Fine Dining Place

Running out of romantic date spots or posh hangouts for you and your girls? Visit this cozy period-inspired restaurant at El Pueblo in Ortigas.

With Christmas Day fast approaching, almost all your favorite restaurants are probably booked solid for group reunions and family gatherings. So, why don't you and your guy or you and your gal pals try something new--and upgraded? Stay away from noisy, crowded restos, and opt for a quiet, cozy, exclusive cafe that offers not just good food at affordable prices, but also an atmosphere conducive for long, intimate talks.

Posh Ambiance

Check out The Winebar at Cafe 1771, located at El Pueblo Real de Manila, Ortigas Center, Pasig City (Tel. Nos. +632-631-7340 / +632-631-7339). Reservations for tables or private rooms can be made for groups of six to 100 persons.

Upon entering the area, you and your date or your crew will instantly feel like VIPs. You'll love The Winebar's exclusive and classy ambiance, with its brick-lined walls, plush lounge sofas, dark wood panels, and soft lighting inspired by the high end bars in New York City's SoHo area. Think Mad Men or Stepford Wives (dressing the part is optional, but we do encourage you to come dressed nice). Mouth-Watering Entrees

With its diverse continental menu, you can sample a little bit of everything from French to Italian, from healthy fare to decadent treats. We highly recommend their signature dishes. For starters, try their scrumptious Parma Ham Croquettes  (crunchy nuggets filled with soft cheese and ham), or the healthy yet delicious Portobello Mushroom and Artichoke Crostini (which is so flavorful, you would relish every bite).

For your main course, try the amazingly tender and rich-tasting Lamb Shoulder Chops, P550, a stew of lamb meat braised with tomatoes, beans, carrots, and olives in a rich sauce. If you prefer seafood, order the diet-friendly Lacquered Salmon, P600, a generous serving of grilled salmon steak greased with soy sauce and honey, served with a side dish of mashed potatoes with parmesan.

They also have dishes good for sharing among three to four people. Try the Holy Cow Pizza, P300, thin-crust pizza topped with white cheese, mozzarella, arugula, and extra virgin olive oil (the taste of yummy cheeses burst in your mouth with every bite!). Meat lovers can indulge in the Salbacho Pizza, P380, so named because of its main ingredients--salami, bacon, and chorizo--loaded with Napolitaine sauce, mozzarella, and basil.

You should also get a fill of Cafe 1771's extensive and unique pasta menu. Try the signature Pasta Chorizo, P390, which is spaghetti tossed in chorizo sauce and parmesan cheese. Seafood-lovers will enjoy the Spaghetti with Sardines and Fried Capers, P290, which is spaghetti tossed in sardines fried with garlic, then topped with fried capers and toasted breadcrumbs.

To cap your unforgettable dining experience here, sample their wide selection of wines (it isn't called a wine bar for nothing). You and your guy or your girlfriends can take your pick from over 400 wines from all over the world. You can enjoy it by the glass, carafe, or bottle from their in-house wine cellar and Enomatic wine dispensers.
