Instagram-Worthy Cafes In Bangkok

Take a shopping break in a gorgeous coffee shop.

If you find yourself on the next flight to Bangkok, you might want to skip the malls for a day and go cafe-hopping instead.

Most of the cafes that are a hit with the locals (you know what they say, when in Rome…) are concentrated in and around the Thong Lo area.

Until recently, Thong Lo was just another train stop—not much really happened here. Sukhumvit Soi 38, which is just below the Thong Lo station, used to be one of the known street food night markets but was significantly downsized to make way for real estate development. But thanks to Bangkok’s growing coffee culture and developing design scene, the Thong Lo area has become a trendy neighborhood with local coffee shops cropping up.

Last October, I found myself with a lot of free time, so I decided to check out all the Instagram-worthy cafes around the neighborhood. What better way to fly solo than to take yourself out to brunch dates in pretty places?

Confession: I’m not a big coffee drinker. I am, however, a sucker for good interior design.

1. Warm Wood

If you’re looking for a cozy spot to wind down, this is the place. The interiors live up to its name. Despite the use of a lot of wood in the design, there is also a lot of natural light so it doesn’t feel cramped. The menu is diverse. Try their Eggs Benedict (they used pulled pork instead of ham) or the Lamb Koftka! Out of this world, you guys.

Location: 141 Thong Lor Soi 10

How to get there: Alight at Thong Lo BTS station. It’s a 15- to 20- minute walk along Sukuhmvit Soi 55. You can take a cab if you don’t feel like walking. For solo travelers, you can save money by taking the motorbike taxis; a starting trip only costs 10 Baht (B10). The drivers wear orange vests so they’re easy to spot.

2. Rocket at Piman 49

Rocket Coffeebar has a few branches, but this particular one is popular for its interesting floor—white hexagonal tiles that transition into wood planks—which can be viewed and photographed from above! They serve Nordic-based food, and have an extensive coffee menu. Try their take on hot cocoa!

Location: 42/12 Sukhumvit Soi 49

How to get there: It’s another 15-minute walk (or 6 minute drive) from Warm Wood cafe and a 10-minute drive from Thong Lo station.

3. D’ARK Cafe at Piman 49

Located in the same compound as Rocket, you can walk across for their coffee + dessert pairings! They also have a mezzanine floor that overlooks their bar and communal seating below.

Location: 48/1 Sukhumvit Soi 49

4. Hands and Heart Coffee

The most no-nonsense coffee house on this list. They serve their coffee either black or white, hot or iced, and that’s pretty much it. Come for breakfast or merienda as they only serve pastries with their coffee. The simple menu fits their minimal aesthetic—the interiors are also just black and white. But it’s stunning AF!

Location: Sukhumvit Soi 38 Thonglor

How to get there: It’s a very short walk from Thong Lo station. Get off at Exit 4.

5. Casa Lapin X 26

Situated below Oneday Hostel, Casa Lapin X 26 is a welcoming space for both locals and tourists alike. The vibe of the place is especially relaxing, and a little bit moody. I enjoyed the food, too. If you’re into books, particularly second-hand books, this branch is walking distance from Dasa Book Cafe along Sukhumvit.

Location: 51 Sukhumvit Soi 26

How to get there: The cafe is walking distance from Phrom Phong station, which should only take you around ten minutes.

6. TheCOMMONS

Although technically not a cafe, it houses more than a few quality eating places. If you’re into architecture and design, this should definitely be on your list of places to visit while you’re in Bangkok. Designed by Department of Architecture, The Commons is a fresh take on the community mall and is an airy and spacious multi-level structure. Get your cameras ready!

Location: 335 Thonglor Soi 17

How to get there: Take a taxi or a motorcycle taxi from Thong Lo station. You can also just walk from the station, but it’ll take you 20 minutes.

7. Roast

One of the most popular brunch and cafe spots in Bangkok, Roast offers a wide range of food and drink choices (a must-try is the Strawberry Waffle!). Plus, the interiors are pretty photogenic so I can see why it’s a favorite.

Location: Top Yard, TheCOMMONS

8. Shugaa Dessert Bar

Shugaa Dessert Bar is a total instagram haven. Pretty interiors? Check. Cute specialty cakes served on marble plates? Check. Shoutout to party / space / design for designing everything from the interiors to the branding! It’s the total package.

Location: 27 Sukhumvit Soi 61

How to get there: It’s a ten-minute walk from Ekkamai station.
