Must-Try Food Spots In Hong Kong--For Various Travel Companions

Planning a trip to Hong Kong for their summer season? Cosmo discovered four places you should definitely check out with friends, family, and your man.

One of the best things about traveling, and we think most of you will agree, is exploring the cuisine that locals love. After all, who doesn't enjoy a good food trip? Besides engaging in tourist activities and shopping, it's a great way to learn more about the local culture and see what's hot and what's not in a foreign city.

A few weeks ago, Cosmo flew out to experience Hong Kong Restaurant Week and discovered new food options for the discerning Filipina foodie. More than 30 restaurants participated in the event, which aimed to promote local establishments through promo prices and special menus. From July 11 to July 17, residents and tourists vied for a reservation slot in the best and most popular restaurants in Hong Kong. See our picks of the best dining spots for Pinays who plan on visiting the country soon--whether with your family, your barkada, or your guy!

Restaurant Option 1: Indochine
Who To Bring: Your family
Where To Go: 4/F The Plaza, 21 D'Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, Central; call 2869 7399 for reservations and inquiries

Make dinner a family affair at this fancy restaurant that serves authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a French twist. When you enter the venue, the first thing you'll notice is the old, colonial-style decor featuring wooden shutters, wicker chairs, and vintage artwork on the walls. Expect great service from the well-trained staff who help complete the inviting, homey ambiance.

The extensive appetizer menu is packed with fusion flavors you'll be hard-pressed to choose from! We suggest you start your meal with a refreshing salad, an order of spring rolls, and squid dumplings. Afterward, dig into some Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab with Salt & Pepper, Wok-fried Beef Tenderloin with Tomato, and Stir-fried Lobster Meat with Coral Sauce! The unique seasoning and garnishes on these dishes make the meal truly unforgettable. Every member of the family will leave the place with a happy, satisfied tummy!

Restaurant Option 2: The Boathouse
Who To Bring: Your barkada
Where To Go: 88 Stanley Main Street, Stanley; call 2813 4467 for reservations and inquiries

If you're traveling with friends, you should check out this adorable continental restaurant by the Stanley Waterfront. The quaint blue building by the sea really feels like a cozy house that's been decorated with nautical items. Visit during lunch for a great view from the tables on the terrace while you play show-and-tell with your latest finds from the nearby famous Stanley Market.

Start your meal with the crisp Caesar Salad or a bowl of Boston Clam Chowder--a great way to feel instantly warm when it rains (which, apparently, is normal during summer in Hong Kong!). To complete the seaside dining experience, order Fish and Chips, which is made of beer-battered sole fillet served on a bed of thick, British-style fries. Or, if you want to load up on carbs after all that shopping drained your energy, a delicious option is the Fusilli Arrabiata with Semi-dried Tomato and Smoked Mozzarella. The servings of these main courses are both huge, so be sure to share it with your tablemates! Cap off your meal with a moist Chocolate Brownie with Mango Mousse, and you'll be all set to continue exploring the sights of the city!

Restaurant Option 3: DiVino Wine Bar & Restaurant
Who To Bring: Your equally fab girlfriends
Where To Go: 73 Wyndham Street, Central; call 2167-8883 for reservations and inquiries

After a tiring day of shopping and sight-seeing with your girlfriends, relax and unwind at this popular after-hours spot. It was actually named Hong Kong's Favourite Wine Bar in HK Magazine! It's easy to see why people love going here. The plush red booths, bamboo lampshades, and modern artwork evoke a trendy yet intimate atmosphere for their usual yuppie clientele.

Enjoy wine and tapas-style appetizers at the bar, or opt for a full meal to share with the girls. The food is Italian with a modern touch, and our favorite dishes are the Beef Tenderloin Bites with Bearnaise Sauce, Carnaroli Risotto with Tomatoes Compote, and Rigatoni with Basil Pesto Sauce. Pair these creative fusion dishes with a bottle of fine red or white wine and a platter of cheese and fresh fruits. It's a sophisticated nightlife alternative to your typical clubbing gimik, that's for sure!

Restaurant Option 4: Yagura
Who To Bring: Your man
Where To Go: Lower Ground Floor of Eaton Hotel, 380 Nathan Road, Kowloon; call 2710 1010 for reservations

If you're with your boyfriend (or if you happen to nab a hot date while on vacation), we've got a great date night option for you. Check out Yagura at the four-star Eaton Hotel. The laidback Izakaya-style restaurant offers 25 varieties of sake and shouchu, and strikes the perfect balance between casual and classy dining.

First, try the Salmon Roe Salad with Avocado and Bonito Flakes, a light yet flavorful appetizer that you both can enjoy. Follow this up with a bowl of assorted sashimi, freshly served on a bed of ice. Your guy can indulge his meat cravings with the Grilled M5 Australian Wagyu Beef, while you enjoy a Rack of Lamb with Wasabi Honey Sauce. Their Mixed Tempura is a must-try dish that does not disappoint. For a refreshing way to close the meal, get Chilled Noodles. If you still have room for dessert, order the Plum Wine Jelly with Berries and Green Tea Ice Cream, a lightly sweet, luscious treat that you can share.
