The Bicol International Airport (BIA) will finally be operational in 2020, according to the Department Of Transportation (DOTr).

DOTr made the announcement on Facebook on January 4.

"Makalipas ang 11 years delay, ang tinaguriang MOST SCENIC GATEWAY sa bansa—ang Bicol International Airport (BIA)—sa Daraga, Albay, ay MALAPIT NANG MATAPOS!" its post read.

The construction of the airport started in 2008, however, it was delayed after what was declared to be a failed bidding.

According to the DOTr, BIA is 62.042 percent complete. It hopes to be finished with the construction by July 2020.

Some two million travelers are projected to benefit when BIA becomes operational.

"At, may bonus pa na tanawin na makikita ang mga pasahero, sa napakagandang view ng bulkang Mayon!" DOTr added.
