Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is here to remind you of the importance of being vocal about things that matter. On October 24, she told her Instagram followers, “Please don’t ever allow your voice to be silenced. You never know [whose] life may be impacted by your words. You never know who you’ll help feel seen, courageous, or comforted. When you speak up for yourself, know that in sharing your stories, you’re speaking up for others, too.”

This came after Catriona issued a statement through her lawyer, Atty. Joji Alonso, as a response to Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade’s post about red-tagging. The statement starts, “Dragging Catriona’s name when all she has endeavored to do is advocate for women’s rights is uncalled for.” Unsurprisingly, Catriona remains steadfast in her commitment to social causes that support women.

ICYDK, the military general told the public that they needed to “educate” Liza Soberano after the actress spoke for a Facebook Live webinar organized by Gabriela Youth on October 13. He also expressed the same sentiment for Catriona. Senator Risa Hontiveros came to the women’s defense; addressing Parlade, she wrote, “Huwag mong gamitin ang kapangyarihan mo bilang heneral upang takutin at pagbantaan ang mga kababaihang ito. Your threats and harassment are unacceptable. By silencing them, pinapalampas mo ang karahasan, panggagahasa, at pangaabuso na nararansan ng napakaraming Pilipino. This is ungentlemanly and a shame to your rank and to the PMA.”

Additionally, in his statement posted on the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) Facebook page, Parlade claimed that Angel Locsin and her family are involved in the NPA. Angel has since responded to this, vehemently denying Parlade’s statement.
