First COVID-19 Case Confirmed In Laguna

The patient is from Santa Rosa City.

Governor Ramil Hernandez announced on Sunday, March 15, that one patient has tested positive of COVID-19 or coronavirus disease in Laguna. The individual is said to be from Santa Rosa City.

Hernandez gave a formal update on Facebook saying: "Ang pasyente po ay nasa pangangalaga na ng kinauukulan. Ang impormasyon pong ito ay nanggaling at kinumpirma ng RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine)... Ang Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Laguna at Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Santa Rosa ay nagtutulungan upang magsagawa ng contact tracing at validation upang matukoy ang mga taong nakasalamuha ng pasyente sa nagdaang labing apat na araw."

It isn’t clear yet if the new patient is included in the latest number that the Department of Health (DOH) announced on the evening of March 15 which already accounted for 111 positive cases. Of this, eight people have already died, with 98 currently hospitalized. The Department also reported having probed 914 possible patients.

Several community quarantines have already been ordered in the country including that of Metro Manila which restricts the entry and exit to and from the city from March 15 (12:0am) to April 14 (11:59pm) with some exceptions. Most recently, Batangas has also been put on community quarantine after two patients tested positive of COVID-19. An executive order from Governor Hermilando Madanas said that strict implementation will run the same duration as that of Metro Manila.
