Acquiring a student’s license from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) just got a tad more difficult.

The LTO has implemented a new scheme for motorists to secure driver’s licenses. Applicants who are applying for a student’s license will now have to take an exam using a touch screen portal. Previously, individuals who are applying for a student permit only needed requirements such as the license application form, a medical certificate, and a birth certificate.

In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB on November 3, LTO Executive Director Romeo Vera Cruz said, “From student, mayroon nang examination yung student, yung non-professional, tsaka [professional].”

The executive director also said that they began the pilot implementation of the exams last week. According to the report, the new scheme comes after several complaints were made, wherein the questionnaire was handed to applicants with the correct answers already filled out.

Romeo added that before taking the exam, an applicant’s biometrics are taken. The executive director also said that apart from biometrics, there will also be facial recognition.
