4 Things You Can Do To Get Him To Speak Up

Is your man tight-lipped about his problems? Here are ways to get him to open up to you.

We all know most men are reluctant to share their feelings with anyone, at the risk of seeming overly emotional, but what can you do to help him talk about it? We got four experts to share tips on getting him to share his thoughts with you.

1. Make open-ended queries.

"Questions that start with 'did,' 'will,' or 'are' can result in one-word responses," says Susan Heitler, PhD, author of The Power of Two. Instead, start with "what" or "how."

2. Draw him out.

Ask specific Qs. "Men may view statements like, 'Well, bosses are like that,' as conversation-ending cues," says Ellyn Bader, PhD, co-founder of the Couples Institute in California.

3. Pretend to read his mind.

Say, "When you're quiet, I think you feel..." suggests Paul Coleman, PsyD, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide To Intimacy. "It opens the door for him to disagree."

4. Give him hungry eyes.

New seductive technique: "Look at his forehead, then his chin, then his ears," says Susan Rabin, author of 101 Ways To Flirt. This breaks up the eye contact so he won't get freaked out.
