Valentine Date Guide: 6 Bonding Activities You Can Do With Your Guy

Even if he's not a big V-Day fan, he'll love to try these with you.

Let's face it, not all guys are into romantic dates--especially NOT on Valentine's Day, when all good restaurants and hotels are fully booked and flower prices go excruciatingly high. But there's a way you can make this day fun for both of you: by trying something new! You don't really have to do these things on V-Day itself (which, mind you, falls on a Monday this year). You can try new things on your date nights, V-Day and beyond. Check out our list of must-try date ideas that are not downright cheesy, but will still deepen your bond as a couple. In case you haven't made any plans for V-Day or the weekends close to it, show this to your guy!

1. Have a sumptuous buffet date.
Even just for a day, forget your diet! He'll love for you to go on a food trip with him. Check out the newly-renovated Cafe Ilang-Ilang at the Manila Hotel. You and your honey would seem like taking a trip around the world as you sample international cuisine at the resto's nine buffet stations. Still, if you insist on sticking to your diet, you can try the "spa" station, which features healthy yet yummy treats. You don't even have to give up dessert, since the dessert station has a sugar-free section. Breakfast buffet prices start at P800/pax, while lunch or dinner could cost you from P1,250++ to P1,976.79, depending on the day of the week. It may be a bit steep, compared to your usual date budget, but it's a super-sulit food trip for special occasions! (Check out the gallery later to view some of the dishes they offer.)

2. Get a relaxing massage together. If you and your guy rarely have quality time together because of your busy schedules, then this is the perfect V-Day treat for both of you: Try the Couples Massage package at The Spa in Powerplant Mall, Rockwell. This branch of The Spa is fairly new, so you know you can enjoy their superb facilities at their best. For V-Day, why don't you get a Premier Suite, which has its own private shower, steam, and bath, to make your pampering sesh more intimate. Both of you can try any two of these different services: Traditional Hilot, Aromatherapy Massage, Volcanic Rock, or Mind and Body Flow. He'll love it, not just because he gets to relax, but because he'll get so turned on by the sight of you enjoying yourself, too. He'll get so excited to run his hands all over your body afterwards! Be sure to book your appointment in advance (like, NOW, as V-Day promises to be a busy day for them). Visit their website for more info, and view the gallery to see some of the facilities at The Spa Rockwell.

3. Have a romantic European dinner--without leaving the country. You already know that Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the world--if not the most romantic. But, if going there anytime soon isn't within you and your man's budget, just enjoy French cuisine on Valentine's Day at Beurre Blanc Restaurant and Wine Bar, located at Newport Mall, Resorts World (it's where we shot our January 2011 Cosmo Online Hunk Paul Jake Castillo). Its rustic French interiors, dim lighting, and comfy seats add to the sensual ambiance of the place. Take your pick from their menu of French-Mediterranean dishes that will seduce your palate with every bite. View photos of some mouth-watering dishes in our gallery.

4. Watch a fun yet romantic concert. Grammy Award-winning pop-country princess Taylor Swift will be in town two weeks from now! Catch her on February 19, the weekend after Valentine's Day, at the Araneta Coliseum. You'll get to sing-along to your favorite Taylor Swift songs, while he'll get to see her beauty live (c'mon, you've got to give him a little incentive for treating you to this concert!). For reservations and inquiries, please visit any Ticketnet outlet, call (02) 911-5555, or log on to www.ticketnet.com.ph. Be sure to buy tickets now--they're close to sold out!

5. Sit back and listen to love songs...in the mall. V-Day is the perfect excuse to humor your senti side. Have your romantic dinner date at Eastwood Mall or Venice Piazza in McKinley Hill at The Fort, then catch the Hymns Of The Heart Concert Series there. Local acts Gino Padilla (February 12, Eastwood Mall Open Park, 7PM; and February 13, Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill, 8PM) and Rachel Alejandro (February 12, Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill, 8PM; and February 13, Eastwood Mall Open Park, 7PM) serenade you with their sweetest ballads, perfect for the season. For a truly cultural experience on Valentine's Day, catch Opera Night on February 14 in Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill at 8PM.

If you want to sample various cuisine in a romantic setting close to the malls you love in Makati, why don't you try AlFresco Dining at the Ayala Triangle Gardens in Ayala Avenue, Makati City from February 11 to 14. You can enjoy a series of concerts they have lined up for you from February 11 to 14 while you dine. Whether it be Valentine's Day or Single Awareness Day for you, bring your loved one or friends and enjoy the season of love, the Ayala Triangle Gardens way, for FREE. "Love Triangle At The Gardens" features a concert by Trombones on February 11, 6PM, with Audie Gemora, Carlo Orosa, Trisha Amper, Sweet Plantado-Tiongson, and Sheila Francisco. And from February 12 to 14, you can listen to Live Serenades. Karylle will also have a solo performance on February 14 at 6PM!

6. Visit an art exhibit. For a different Valentine's date, treat the art-lovers in you and satisfy your visual cravings by visiting a museum. Check out the breathtaking paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, and photographs at We Was There, a collaborative modern art exhibit by Filipino and Korean artists. It will be open to the public until February 12 at the Yuchengco Museum at RCBC Plaza, Ayala cor. Sen. Gil Puyat Avenues, Makati City. Museum hours are from Monday to Saturday, 10AM to 6PM. For more information, call 889-1234 or e-mail info@yuchengcomuseum.org.
