The biggest beauty and wellness festival in the metro, Cosmopolitan BEAUTYCON, was held at the SMX Convention Center from August 31 to September 1. Hundreds of Cosmo girls flocked to the venue to shop the coolest brands, plus they also got to meet and listen to their favorite celebs and influencers!
One of the speakers of Day 1 was Em Millan, a celebrity stylist. Her segment was called Dressing Up For YOUR Body. She shared tips for dressing up to emphasize your best assets to make you look and feel your best.
According to Em, "Fashion is architecture—it's all a matter of proportion."
She talked about the different body shapes (diamond, triangle, hourglass, apple, pear, and inverted triangle) and how, with the right clothes, colors, textures, and details, we can all project a flattering figure.
Here are some of the styling tips that we learned from her:
Stay away from stripes if you're tall.
If you're tall, avoid vertical stripes or layers, as it can give the illusion of even longer limbs.ADVERTISMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW ↓
Solid colors are your BFF if your small.
If you have a petite frame, monochromatic OOTDs are the way to go. According to Em, wearing one solid color gives the illusion that you're taller because it creates one fluid line. Try to stay away from midi dresses because they fall at an awkward length and it cuts you off, making you appear smaller.
Loose clothing is actually a no-no if you're plus-size.
If you're plus-size, remember that your clothes should fit your frame beautifully. Em shared that a common misconception would be turning to loose clothing to "hide" the body, but that's actually not helpful to flattering your figure. Don't be shy to pick cuts to hug your body in the right places!
Highlight your favorite area when you dress up.
For example, if you don't like your stomach, wear something that's shoulder-baring.
