"It's like rain on your wedding day," sings Alanis Morissette. That "Ironic" thing will most likely happen when you want to be a bride in June, at least here in the Philippines.
The organizers of Fashion Watch Quartet 2011 held last month may have taken that into consideration when they put together the collections of designers Jerome Lorico and Ito Curata in one glamorous fashion show, held at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel Lobby Lounge.
The fashion series (the Lorico-Curata back-to-back show was just one of many in their lineup) aims to bring to the forefront fresh new talent as well as internationally-acclaimed homegrown names. The exclusive collections are proudly Philippine-made, showing the notable talent of our local designers. These collections now serve as inspiration for our own fashion needs this season.
For instance, if you're looking to stock up on rain-friendly and cold-weather-appropriate LBDs, look to young designer Jerome Lorico's chic all-black collection. Lorico elevated knitwear to a whole new level of sexy with short hemlines and sleek silhouettes that will make you stand out in this drab weather. Take inspiration from his designs by stocking up on classic chunky knits and cardigans in dark colors for a casual yet effortlessly stylish look (or learn from this month's fashion editorial, "In His Clothes," pp. 135-140, and borrow your guy's black sweaters!). Don't forget your black tights (check out p. 65 of the June ish)!
Meanwhile, if you're looking for inspirations for what to wear to all those weddings you have been invited to this month (or, to your own wedding!), then take a look at internationally-acclaimed Ito Curata's collection. Admire his opulent gowns and dresses in luxurious fabrics done with lace, ruffles, and embroidery in shades of gold, brown, teal, and black. If dresses are not your thing, he also has on-trend retro pantsuits that will suit your taste for vintage glam. His immaculate bridal gowns are worth considering, too.
