Using social media as a platform to empower other people is nothing new, but it’s something we would always be down for. The latest thing to stir up a conversation on Twitter? #WeWearWhatWeWant.
According to Buzzfeed, 23-year-old Simone Mariposa started the hashtag after this body-shaming story came to her attention. In a series of tweets, Simone explained that she was fed up with society dictating what plus-size women should—and shouldn’t—wear.
Simone figured the best way to get people talking was through social media, so she encouraged her followers to post selfies and outfit shots tagged #WeWearWhatWeWant.
Social media did not disappoint. In the four days since Simone launched the hashtag, women have responded by sharing their photos, often accompanied by confidence-boosting affirmations:
