And in typical Duchess of Cambridge style, she wowed us with a bouncy blow dry and a cute, colorful dress.
Not only was the dress itself an interesting choice—she decided to recycle an Emilia Wickstead number, the same designer who caused a stir by allegedly commenting on Meghan Markle's wedding dress back in April—but so was her selection of accessories.
If you look closely, you'll notice that Kate is holding a small bag by British luxury leather brand, Aspinal. It's the perfect color to suit her lilac dress, so so far, not so unusual, right?
Only, the thing is, before Meghan Markle came on the scene with her "rule-breaking" cross-body bags and small bags with handles, Kate's bag of choice for an occasion like this would usually be a trusty clutch.
In fact, here she is in Germany last year wearing the same dress, with a bright orange clutch bag.
The theory behind Kate's preference to clutch bags is that they need to be held, and therefore prevent unwanted handshakes. You can read more about that, here.
For this official visit with Prince William, however, Kate decided to branch out and leave her clutch bags at home. And perhaps, we have Meghan to thank for that!
