A thing to know about me: I love experimenting with my hair. I've tried countless hair colors, bleach jobs, and cuts. I just love how a hair makeover can immediately transform my overall appearance and make me look like a whole different person! But, these took a toll on my tresses. The price I had to pay for candy-colored strands was a perpetually dry scalp + mane.
Because of this, I am constantly on the hunt for products that can restore my mane's health and keep it that way. When I heard about Dove's newest hair care releases, the Dermacare Scalp Anti-Dandruff Soothing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner, I was intrigued. Could these be my new holy grail products?
What is my hair's current condition?
Bleaching made my hair and scalp dry and prone to flakes, so I alternate between a normal and anti-dandruff shampoo. I wash my locks with shampoo every other day to prevent dryness and use a regular conditioner every day to keep them soft.
For this experiment, I used Dove's Dermacare Scalp Anti-Dandruff Soothing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner for an entire week. These products promise to relieve irritation and leave the hair flake-free, smooth, and more manageable. They both have a pH-balanced formula and are gentle enough to be used every day.

I'm pretty iffy about anti-dandruff shampoos, TBH. Even though they manage to keep flakes at bay, using them makes my locks look more parched—my hair is already dry as it is. Dove's newest line claims to have a pH-balanced formula that's gentle enough to be used every day. This is what intrigued me and made me decide to take on this ~experiment~.
I used a coin-sized amount of shampoo for my short-but-thick hair and worked up a good lather. I made sure to massage it on my roots to really get the full effect. It smelled clean and fresh, which came as a relief to me as my nose is sensitive to overpowering scents. I was also pleased that it didn't have that ~medicinal~ fragrance that most anti-dandruff shampoos have.
When I rinsed it off, my hair was squeaky clean but not parched. It didn't leave my locks feeling stripped of moisture; instead, they were ~hydrated~. I was impressed.
I followed it up with the conditioner. I smoothed it on my hair, starting from the middle down to the tips. I left it on for five minutes and continued with the rest of my shower routine. When it was time to rinse it off, I was amazed at how soft my strands became. It also didn't feel greasy and heavy, which is usually my big issue with conditioners. Yay!
When I air-dried my hair, it felt very bouncy and light. Even without back-combing, my tresses had volume and ~life~. On the third day of the experiment, I noticed there weren't any dry flakes that fell out when I tried scratching my scalp to check for dandruff. The Dove Soothing Moisture line *definitely* lived up to, and even exceeded, my expectations.
What are my final thoughts? Would I use them again?
Prior to this experiment, I wasn't too keen on anti-dandruff shampoos. They're way too harsh and leave my already-dry hair even more parched. The Dove Dermacare Scalp Soothing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner, however, made me do a 180 and completely changed my opinion.
The Dove Dermacare Scalp Anti-Dandruff Soothing Moisture Shampoo not only cleansed my hair, but it also left it feeling hydrated. My scalp didn't feel taut at all. On the other hand, the Dove Dermacare Scalp Anti-Dandruff Soothing Moisture Conditioner didn't turn my locks into a greasy mess. It gave my hair much-needed volume, and didn't leave it limp and lifeless.
In conclusion, the Dove Dermacare Scalp Anti-Dandruff Soothing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner are *definitely* going to be part of my hair care routine! I highly recommend them to people with dry and dandruff-prone hair. It also doesn't hurt that they're super affordable—they're great for those who are on a tight budget.
