I bet there are just as many ladies out there who watch the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show as there are men. I also bet that, while guys are drawn to the sight of Miranda Kerr bouncing, er, strutting down the runway, the girls are busy checking out her…hair!
Yes, that's right. For years now, the ladies of Victoria's Secret have inspired hair envy in many a woman as we watch their long, luscious locks catch the lights from the cameras trained on them at the end of the runway. It makes us wonder: how exactly can we score hair that screams sex with every swish? And most importantly, where?
I recently went on a mane mission to Blowout Bar, the first-ever salon in Manila that "specializes in hair styling and hair care for women."
As soon as I entered, I was greeted by a bright and cheery space, as well as Blowout Bar's owners, Ina Picar and Michael Arroyo. Right away, I noticed the main feature of the salon, the Blowout Bar, which is one long white bar where all the services are done.
For my mane, I chose from a chalkboard menu that boasts hairstyles named after cocktails (all of which are P350): the Flirtini is their signature blowout which was inspired by the hair of the Victoria's Secret models and is versatile enough for everyday wear; the Long Island is all about straight and sleek hair and is ideal for a business meeting; the Malibu Rum gives you messy, beach-y waves that are great for a casual night out on the town; and finally, the Cherry Bombshell piles on lots and lots of curls, making it the perfect hairstyle for any formal event.
I opted for Malibu Rum and was sent to the back of the salon, where one of the attendants washed and conditioned my hair. I took the Blowout Upgrade (P600), which got me a free drink and, instead of the usual shampoo and conditioner, Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo, Conditioner, cream, and serum on my tresses.
After getting my hair shampooed and conditioned, I was led to the blowout bar, where the attendant applied a bit of Moroccan Smooth Perfection Blow Out Cream to protect my hair. With the cream set in, they blow-dried my hair until it was dry enough to use a curling iron on. They divvied my hair into sections, and artfully curled each strip of hair--they exercised moderation in curling, making sure to curl only a few key sections to achieve that messy, beach-y look. Ina took over after the attendant stashed away the curling iron, mussed my hair a bit, and topped the whole hair experiment off with some Moroccan Argan Oil Penetrating Oil.
The whole process took about an hour to an hour and a half. And just like that, I looked geared and ready to head to the nearest bar for happy hour with friends!
