Chie Filomeno Slams Speculations About Her In A New Statement

Chie Filomeno is so done with all the rumors—but it looks like the Internet isn't. In a recent statement, the actress spoke about having to clear her name even if "people will believe what they want to believe."

In her latest IG post, Chie called out how some people can twist narratives no matter how many times she clarifies the truth. ICYMI, nonstop rumors and unsolicited opinions have been swirling around her these days, particularly related to her alleged relationship with Matthew Lhuillier.

And so, the actress took to social media to finally address the noise—again. "When you finally stand up for yourself, some people will still find something to criticize or belittle you. If I stay silent, I'm guilty… and then if I speak up, kasalanan ko na naman or I'm guilty," she said.

Chie's statement comes from both exhaustion and the urge to stand up for herself. The actress strongly declared, "Since patolera daw ako (kayo na rin nagsabi niyan 😌), I choose my battles wisely. Okay, this time… I'll make patol."

In disbelief, she called out the unnecessary and alleged fabricated hate that's been spreading online, especially when it starts affecting the people she cares about.

"I will not allow anyone to belittle me, especially the people close to my heart. I've seen how some hide behind dummy accounts, private profiles, or worse—create new ones just to hurt others. That's not right. Not right at all. Tigilan niyo na, please," Chie urged.

Her statement comes amid unverified online rumors claiming that Chie has started a new chapter in her life, not with her previously reported celebrity boyfriend, Jake Cuenca, but allegedly with Matthew Lhuillier—a fourth-generation member of the Lhuillier family, a.k.a. one of the richest and most prominent clans in the Philippines.

With the persistent online chatter about her alleged involvement with Matthew, Chie wanted to make it all clear in her statement: she wants to protect her peace and her privacy. While she understands that fame comes with public scrutiny at times, she pointed out that the Internet's attention should be focused on real issues and definitely not on her personal life.

Chie wrote, "It's about time people understand their boundaries. I will speak when I feel it’s necessary—dahil tao pa rin ako. Tao pa rin kami. Ang ingay-ingay na ng mundo natin. Mas mabuti unahin na lang natin ang mas mahalagang bagay, tulad ng flood control at ang malakas na lindol sa Cebu at Davao."

Chie has neither confirmed nor denied her rumored relationship with Matthew. However, she did release a statement addressing the issue, saying, "I've been reading and hearing a lot these past few days, and I ask that my past relationship, my present life, and the Lhuillier family be left out of this issue. They don't deserve to be dragged into something that has nothing to do with them."

It's her first public statement since unverified rumors about her love life began circulating online a couple of weeks ago. Meanwhile, she has chosen not to comment on her previous relationship with Jake Cuenca.

"No further statements will be made at this time, and I kindly ask that people refrain from speculation or intrusions into my private affairs," Chie said.

Some celebrities, Chie's friends in the industry, and of course, hundreds of online users flocked to Chie's post, expressing their support for her statement. While some wrote their own beliefs on the matter.

Max Collins, for one, left three clapping emojis, seemingly affirming Chie's words.

One commenter said, "Hugs te. People that are close to you know that you're a good person. Kahit ano pa sabihin nila sayo mas nangingibabaw yun. Ganun talaga pag sumisikat."

Meanwhile, another boldly wrote, "Dami mong pinaglalaban girl! U ain't winning by talking! Take your silence and win." But Chie wasn't having any of the negative comments anymore.

She responded to the comment and said, "Oh shut up and read. I have been quiet ☺️"

Just days before the above IG post, Jake actually broke his silence about their relationship, which the actor confirmed has ended without a breakup. "I'm good—it's a lot to take. Ang daming nangyayari, ang daming sinasabi ng mga tao. But I think I can officially say that that chapter of my life is over now," Jake declared in a recent interview with the press.

The ex-couple reportedly started dating back in 2023. Their relationship gained buzz after they were seen hyping each other up on social media, appearing together at public events like the ABS-CBN Ball, and more. As of writing, the two are no longer following each other on Instagram.
