So...Why Did Claudine Barretto Delete The Love Letter From Rico Yan?

Claudine Barretto has deleted a love letter from Rico Yan that she posted on her Instagram account. The letter, dated September 7, 1998, garnered love from supporters and Claudine's fellow celebrities. However, there were some who questioned the authenticity of the letter, saying the paper looked new.

PEP reports that before the post was deleted, a netizen even commented: "Kita ko lang po na same penmanship [noong] letter na binigay mo for your [mom] and it's different from Rico's. And the paper looks new when it's been 19 years since he passed away. No hate po, I am a big fan of your love team but just wanna ask if did [you] write this and pi-nost or ci-nopy niyo lang. Much love po @claubarretto."

Claudine responded to the comment, saying: "Not my writing." 

As of this writing, Claudine has not issued an explanation as to why she deleted the letter. 


Claudine Barretto just posted a love letter from Rico Yan, and fans' hearts are breaking.

The actress took to Instagram to share a photo of the short and sweet note which was written on September 7, 1998. Claudine was 19 years old, while Rico was 23.

"Double infinity," said Claudine in the caption. "RYCB (Rico Yan-Claudine Barretto) and CLAUDINIANS, this is for all of you."

Here's Rico's touching message:

"Hunny, just wanted to let you know that you are the best thing that happened in my life," Rico wrote. "You are my life! While I watch you sleep, I can't believe you're mine. Thank you for being my rock! And Hunny, you rock. I love you very much, Hunny."

Celebs such as Dianne Medina, Mariel Rodriguez, and Neri Naig couldn't help but react to Claudine's post.

Followers of the love team know all too well that at the time of the letter, Claudine and Rico were in the middle of filming their soap Mula Sa Puso, which ran from 1997 to 1999. They were first paired in the movies Madrasta in 1996 and Flames The Movie in 1997, before falling in love with each other in 1998.

Claudine and Rico broke up four years later in March 2002, shortly after the premiere of their movie Got 2 Believe. In the same month, Rico was found dead while on vacation in Palawan due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis. He was only 27.

In an IG post, Claudine described that day as "the day my heart broke into pieces."

This isn't the first time that Claudine has shared Rico's love letters. She first started posting photos of his handwritten messages in 2015 and in 2016. She revealed in a past interview that she thinks of Rico every day
