You might have new TV show faves now, but there will always be that one series that holds a special place in your heart. That no matter how many times you've watched it, it just never gets old. For many, that show is the sit-com Friends. It's been 25 years since the first episode aired and while you haven't gotten new episodes in so long, seeing it over and over is still just as comforting and funny. Jennifer Aniston got fans excited on October 15 with an Instagram photo of the cast, and it seems you'll be seeing more of Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe, and Joey: There's a Friends reunion special in the works at HBO!
There aren't a lot of details on it yet, but we do know it's not a reboot or a remake of the show. During a Friends panel at the Tribeca TV Festival, co-producers and executive producers Marta Kauffman and David Crane confirmed that it wasn't going to be a continuation of the series. David added that Friends stands well on its own already: "We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it."
Jennifer's Instagram post of the cast reunion not only marked the opening of her account, it shut down the photo-based social media platform, too. In an interview with Deadline, Jennifer mentioned there would be no reboot, but she's open to working with the original cast in time for the show's 25th anniversary. "I would love for there to be something, but we don't know what that something is," she said. "So we're just trying. We're working on something."
The unscripted reunion special is still in the works, but once it's up and running, it will be available on HBO's streaming platform HBO Max.
