Gabbi Garcia And Khalil Ramos Explain Why Not Being In A Love Team Benefited Their Relationship

Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos have been together for almost eight years now. They're the perfect match, and they have a long way to go in their relationship. But as a couple who are both from showbiz, they note that one of the things that contributed well to their romance is the fact that they never worked as a love team.
Well, let's face it: love teams are big in the Philippines. (And as Gerald Anderson once said, it's impossible not to fall for your love team partner.) There are a lot of reel-to-real-life couples out there—some have worked, some have failed. Nevertheless, love teams are somehow a way to get to know someone romantically or beyond the scope of your work as celebs.
Not for Gabbi and Khalil, though. At one point, the two are kind of relieved that they get to know each other as themselves—as Gabbi and Khalil— period.
"We really started our relationships—we're not workmates, we're not in a love team. For a long time, we did not see each other at work," Khalil said in a vlog with Karen Davila, where he, together with Gabbi, talked about their career and relationship.
The 29-year-old celebrity added, "So, whenever we see each other, it's just us talaga, like outside of work. We built that relationship from the ground up, with the idea that we wanted to last."
Gabbi, who supported this sentiment, also divulged how they navigated their relationship maturely as they could. They were both on the same page: they want the romance to last. "Since the beginning of our relationship, when we felt that this is something that can be prolonged, we agreed na, let's be smart about this relationship. We really tried to make the right decisions," Gabbi told Karen.
To be straightforward, Karen asked them if not being in a love team (like some celeb couples) was actually beneficial for them. Khalil affirmed, "Hindi kami sanay. It became beneficial for both of us."
Gabbi added, "Nagki-cringe nga kami kapag magka-pair kami eh. [...] Nakilala ko siya as Khalil na, who he is, hindi Khalil na artista."

Admittedly, Gabbi emphasized that she's not one to enjoy flings or short-term romances. That's why her relationship with Khalil (going strong!) feels exactly how she wants it to be at this point in her life. With marriage in their minds—because it's date to marry for Gabbi and Khalil, folks—they're not rushing at anything and just enjoying their life and career with each other.
One more thing that helped their relationship last? It's their golden rule to communicate everything.
"That’s our golden rule, with Khalil and I. We have to communicate everything… Every time we fight, we have to sit down and talk about it," Gabbi shared in a 2024 podcast episode.
After all, maintaining a long-term relationship is not an easy feat. There are problems along the road, and they choose to talk about them and, of course, to love each other.
She expressed, "We are in a seven-year relationship. And seven years is no joke. You don't love this person every day. Sometimes you hate this person. It's true. And I'm pretty sure it's the same thing with Khalil. I'm pretty sure he gets annoyed sa akin most of the time. But wala, we choose to love each other. And we choose to sit down and fix things. Always."
