Hilary Duff Asked Disney+ To Move The 'Lizzie McGuire' Reboot To Hulu To Make It 'Real And Relatable'

A Lizzie McGuire reboot is a dream come true for Hilary Duff fans who grew up watching the adventures of young Lizzie in the early 2000s. The return of the show was first announced in August 2019, followed by a sneak peek of the McGuire living room, and a photo of Hilary *in character*.

But recently, filming for the series reboot reportedly went on hiatus, after creator Terri Minsky stepped down as showrunner. A Disney spokesperson said, "Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series. After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show."

Hilary *finally* gave an update on the show with her recent Instagram post, where she she shared that she hopes to have the reboot aired on a different streaming platform. This is to make the now 30-year-old Lizzie's life "real and relatable," without the Rated PG limitation.

The series was set to be launched on Disney+, but Hilary said, "it would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested and I could bring this beloved character to life again."

She said, "[I] was incredibly excited to launch Lizzie on D+ and my passion remains! However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans' relationship with Lizzie who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her... It's important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable."
