- Jennifer Lopez is being sued for $150,000—or P7,602,750—over an Instagram photo.
- The photo in question was posted way back in 2017.
The world might be hunkering down at home right now, but apparently celebrity lawsuits aren't taking any time off. According to E! News, Jennifer Lopez is being sued for posting a photo to Instagram without the photographer's permission, and it sounds kinda messy.
The photo in question appears to be of Jennifer dressed as her Shades of Blue character, Harlee, and was posted way back on June 22, 2017. According to court documents obtained by E!, photographer Steve Sands took the original image, and he's seeking an excess of $150,000 in damages for copyright infringement.
Per the lawsuit (which is against both J.Lo and her production company), "Defendants did not license the Photograph from Plaintiff for its Website, nor did Defendants have Plaintiff's permission or consent to publish the Photograph on its Website."
The suit was filed by lawyer Richard Liebowitz, who tells E! News, "This is an example of celebrities using photographers photographs without permission to brand themselves on social media. The number of likes the photograph receives coupled with their number of social media followers is a tool to commercialize their posts."
Guess we'll see what happens, but FYI this isn't the first time J.Lo has been sued over a photo. She also got sued for $150,000 for posting a picture of herself and Alex Rodriguez holding hands in an Instagram Story back in 2017.
