Liza Soberano Claps Back At Netizen Who Accused The Actress Of Doing Blackface In A New Fast Food Ad

Liza Soberano is the new face of a popular fast food chain and she starred in an ad where she played the role of all five members of the Spice Girls.

On Instagram, Liza shared a photo of herself dressed up as Mel B. AKA Scary Spice, as well as the video advertisement where Liza sang along to the tune of the Spice Girls’ “Spice Up Your Life.”

One netizen pointed out that Liza did blackface—a form of theatrical makeup mainly used by fair-skinned actors to resemble black people.

Liza defended her look and said, “This is not any form of blackface. It’s a costume just like how any other person would dress up if they were portraying a famous character. In this case, it’s Mel B.”

It’s not the first time that Liza has spoken up against online bashers. In April 2019, Liza fired back at a netizen who told her that she was losing her focus and should go back to work after she posted vacation photos on Instagram. Liza said, “Who are you to tell me when [my] vacation is over? My managers allowed me and so did my bosses. I’ve been working hard for my family since I was 12. I think I deserve the time I get off.”
