Long before YouTube and on-demand video streaming was a thing, telenovelas ("television soap operas") were some of the most viewed content on TV.
ICYDK, back in the '90s, many Filipinos were glued to their TV sets because of the wildly popular telenovela Marimar, a love-story-slash-revenge-rags-to-riches story, starring Latin pop icon and then 23-year-old actress, Thalia.
Because of her successful soaps, Thalia appeared in a string of other telenovelas, most of which also created a massive following in the Philippines. She even did a cover of the song "Nandito Ako" and GMA-7 did two remakes of Marimar: one in 2007 starring Marian Rivera and another in 2015 starring Megan Young.
On August 26, Thalia celebrated her 50th birthday and posted photos of herself on Insta. The upload featured her wearing a colorful swimsuit and posing with balloons spelling out her age. "Happy birthday to me! 50," part of Thalia's caption reads.
These days, Thalia continues to make music for her fans. She recently dropped a new music video for her song "Cancelado."
Happy birthday, Thalia!
