This Pinay Fangirl Shares Why She's Got Her Eye On GOT7
For Yana, her intro to K-pop happened by coincidence. As an avid K-drama fan, Yana watched the Korean reality show, Roommate, back in 2017 which starred her ultimate oppa at that time, Seo Kang Joon. Little did she know that one of the show's other stars would be the reason she'd fall in love with K-pop: GOT7's Jackson Wang. "I started to research about Jackson and also watch videos of him. So basically that's how I discovered GOT7," she shares.
Being an Ahgase (GOT7's official fandom name) for around three years, Yana has already seen her ults—JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom—twice in real life! She's gone to two of their concerts so far: The first was in 2018 for their Eyes On You concert in Singapore, and the second was in Manila in 2019 for their Keep Spinning tour. "During the [Eyes On You] concert, it was really a rollercoaster of emotions for me," Yana says of her first-ever K-pop concert. It was a ~pinch me~ moment for her when she finally realized that the boys were right in front of her: "Yung first time ko silang nakita up-close sobrang ilang beses kong paulit-ulit sinasabi na, 'Oh my gosh, totoo na talaga sila.' As in, nasa harap ko lang sila. Iba yung feeling."
But her most memorable GOT7 experience would have to be their Manila concert last year. "The Manila stop was so amazing kasi the fan chants were super loud—as in, to the point na hindi mo na halos marinig yung GOT7 kasi ganun siya kalakas. And iba din kasi ang energy ng mga Filipino fans," Yana explains. She also experienced a super-close encounter with Jackson that night: "I was crushed sa pit pero okay lang. Super worth it kasi kung nasaan ako, nasa harap ko lagi si Jackson."
Yana's fangirling stems deeper than these unforgettable fan experiences—GOT7's music and artistry is what motivates her each and every day: "What I love about GOT7 is, of course, their music. And, to be honest, they really pulled me up when I was at my lowest back in 2017. And up until now, they are really my source of happiness and inspiration to do even better and to push even harder."
