Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo fell down during her final walk at the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 coronation night on September 30. But she gracefully recovered with her final Miss Universe interview.
The moment happened right before the Top 10 contestants were announced. Rabiya, who was dressed in a gold thigh-slit gown, confidently took her walk down the stage but tripped as soon as she was *almost* done walking.
Following her fall, Rabiya held her head up high and did a quick interview with host KC Montero. Rabiya talked about being nervous and said, "Probably that moment before you go out on stage. I remember I was feeling that kaba and I would remind our girls that nervousness is normal and that [means] the competition really matters to you."
Rabiya also advised the current contestants of Miss Universe: "To the girls, just enjoy the moment. If it's for you, it’s going to happen. If not, there's always next time."
The beauty queen also had a message for her real-life queen, her mom. She said, "To my mom who is watching right now, how I wish that you were here with us and see me in my last few moments as Miss Universe Philippines."
"Thank you so much for believing in me when a lot of people are telling me that I am not good enough and when people were calling me names, you were there and were lifting my spirits. Because of that, my dreams are now achievable and I love you so much, Mama. I promise to be a good daughter to you," Rabiya continued.
Rabiya also outlined her plans after her reign as Miss Universe Philippines: "Rabiya Mateo as a beauty queen is saying goodbye for now but I am excited to try my chances in showbusiness and I really want to do hosting and acting. To my supporters, I hope that you're still there in my next chapter."
She also took to Instagram Stories to reshare posts about her "fall," even joking: "Sorry na po! Wala talaga akong balance and coordination."
