Here’s something to get you through hump day: Taylor Swift just dropped her new song called “The Archer!” It’s the fifth track of her new album, Lover, which will come out on August 23. Produced by frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, “The Archer” is one of Taylor’s most emotional and vulnerable songs. She sings, "I've been the archer / I've been the prey / Who could ever leave me, darling? / But who could stay?"
She told fans via Instagram, "I really wanted to give you track five before the album came out. Track five is kind of a tradition that really started with you guys because—I didn't realize I was doing this, but as I was making albums, I don’t know why but instinctively I was putting very vulnerable, personal, honest, emotional songs as track five."
Her previous fifth tracks are her self-titled album’s "Cold as You," Fearless' "White Horse," Speak Now's "Dear John," Red's "All Too Well," 1989's "All You Had To Do Was Stay," and Reputation's "Delicate."
