WATCH: The Trailer Of 'Verdict,' The Philippines' Entry To The 2020 Oscars

It's a sad story of domestic abuse and the justice system.

The Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) has finally announced the name of the movie which will be the country's official entry to the 2020 Oscars.

"We are pleased to announce that the movie #VERDICT, produced by CenterStage Productions, has been chosen as the official Philippine Film Entry to the International Feature Film (formerly Foreign Language Film) Category for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards or The Oscars," said the Film Academy of the Philippines in a Facebook post. "Congratulations and best of luck to the producers of the movie. #fapweb2019"

Verdict, a film directed by Raymund Ribay Gutierrez, produced by Center Stage Productions and released through Solar Pictures, is a story about Joy, a woman who is a victim of domestic abuse. She files a case in the municipal court against the offender, her alcoholic husband Dante, who has also started to hurt her daughter, Angel. Joy was played by Max Eigenmann and Dante by the late Kristoffer King. Max, BTW, is Andi Eigenmann's half-sister.

Verdict won the Jury Prize in the Orrizonti, New Horizons Section of the Venice Film Festival.

One of the films that were considered among the entries was Janine Gutierrez and Benjamin Alves' movie Dagasin.
